Robot Machine Tending Education Cell (MTEC)

The MTEC with ROBODRILL combines a FANUC vertical CNC with a FANUC robot, teaching students robotic machine tending, CNC programming, 2D vision guidance, and automated fixturing—all in one complete system.

Integrated CNC and robotics training.

The MTEC with ROBODRILL, developed by APT Manufacturing Solutions in partnership with FANUC, is an advanced training system designed to teach students how to integrate robotics directly with CNC machining. Equipped with a FANUC CNC vertical machining center and a FANUC robot (LR Mate or CRX collaborative), the MTEC allows learners to program, operate, and optimize both technologies in real-world scenarios.

With preconfigured program templates, NIMS Job Duty projects, and optional FANUC iRVision for 2D guidance, students gain hands-on experience in robotic machine tending, CNC part programming, inspection, and automation workflows. The system includes a full set of accessories such as CNC tooling and coolant packages, ensuring an authentic machining and automation environment in the classroom or lab.

Features:
• FANUC ROBODRILL vertical machining center with FANUC robot (LR Mate ER-4iA or CRX-5iA cobot)
• CNC simulation and machine tending integration with preloaded templates
• NIMS Job Duty 2.10 project-based learning module included
• Optional FANUC iRVision for 2D guided robot motion and inspection
• Full CNC tooling package with holders, collets, and carbide endmills
• Coolant & skimmer package for complete machining setup
• Automated fixturing and robot programming for part handling and inspection

See how high schools and technical and community colleges are preparing their students for high-wage, high-demand careers in industrial automation.

Automation training solutions for every program and learner

The FANUC suite of training solutions covers every aspect of automation technology, from foundational to advanced skills. By developing a comprehensive program, you can prepare learners to enter careers as operators, technicians, programmers, engineers, and integration specialists.

Basic Operator

Students with this level will attain a basic understanding of robot and CNC operations and programming, material handling and its components, and preventative maintenance with troubleshooting. Students will work with standard robot or cobot carts, CNC simulators and 2- and 3-axis machines.

Intermediate Technician

Students with this technical level have a more thorough understanding of robot and CNC operations and programming, material handling and its components, robotic welding, multi-axis machine tools, as well as integrated technology, such as 2D iRVision, conveyors, digital and Ethernet I/O.

Advanced Systems Integrator

Advanced training options teach integrated technologies and how they communicate as a fully-automated system. In addition to robots and CNC machine tools, students will work with PLCs, HMIs, area scanners, light curtains, wireless communication and I/O, pneumatic devices, smart sensors, RFID tags, conveyors, and data analytics.
