The Air Bag Trainer provides comprehensive instruction in Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) operation, diagnosis, and service using authentic Toyota airbag components. Students work with a complete airbag system including the airbag control module (ECU), left and right crash sensors that detect collision forces, driver-side seat position sensor for optimal airbag deployment, passenger-side occupancy class sensor for determining if deployment is appropriate, and driver and passenger seatbelt switches that inform the system of restraint usage. The redeployable design allows repeated airbag firing for demonstration and diagnostic training without the expense of replacing pyrotechnic airbag modules after each deployment. This capability enables students to observe actual deployment, understand deployment timing and force, and practice diagnostic procedures for common airbag system faults. Students learn to diagnose crash sensor failures, seat sensor problems, occupancy sensor malfunctions, seatbelt switch issues, and airbag ECU faults using scan tools and proper SRS diagnostic procedures. Understanding airbag system architecture, sensor integration, and safety protocols is essential for modern automotive technicians, as improper SRS service can result in accidental deployment injuries or system failure during collisions. This trainer prepares students for safe, professional airbag system service and ASE certification in electrical/electronic systems.
