The Hybrid/Electric Vehicle System Main Relay Trainer (MEG-SMR) is designed to demonstrate the operation of high-voltage battery main relay systems used in hybrid and electric vehicles. This trainer provides a safe instructional platform for understanding how the system’s main relays (SMRs) control battery power delivery to inverter and converter assemblies, including applications similar to those found in the Toyota Prius.
Using actual SMR components, students observe how high-voltage battery circuits are safely connected and disconnected under ECU control. Prismatic hybrid battery cells operate at a maximum of 14 VDC, ensuring student safety while accurately simulating real-world high-voltage system behavior.
The trainer allows full ECU function simulation, enabling learners to analyze relay activation sequences, control logic, and safety interlock strategies. By working through controlled system scenarios, students develop a deeper understanding of high-voltage battery management and relay-based protection systems used in modern hybrid and electric vehicles.
